News
The European markets have opened up to Flux Marine for their industry-leading high-horsepower all-electric outboard for recreational boats since they completed the EU conformity assessment.
Adventure Scientists, working with local divers and community members across Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Mexico, is building one of the world’s largest coordinated coral reef monitoring networks. They have completed over 1,700 standardized reef transects across two major marine corridors, with more than 100 trained community scientists generating comparable, rigorous data to guide reef conservation and restoration decisions across the region.
The Nature Conservancy has published a white paper on “Unlocking the potential of Seaweed Biostimulants in Agriculture for plant and soil health”. They also published a “farmer brief” for seaweed farmers who are interested in entering the biostimulants market.
California Ocean Science Trust has announced the first recipients of its SeaChange Scholars Fund: two CSU graduate students each receiving $10,000 to study how floating offshore wind development in California's federally designated Wind Energy Areas may affect marine fish communities and harbor seal populations, with the awards designed to build a next generation of applied ocean scientists whose work directly informs state coastal management decisions.

[DUE TOMORROW] Ocean Science Equity Initiative (EquiSea) is convening a cohort of scientific researchers to participate in their mCDR capacity-building side events attend attend the Ocean in a High-CO₂ World Symposium in New Zealand in October. Applications for the cohort close July 15th.
The Earthna Prize is a Qatar Foundation initiative that awards a $1 million pool to four winners for projects that use traditional knowledge and cultural heritage to address pressing environmental challenges across water, food, terrestrial, marine, and built-environment systems. Their applications for 2026 are open until July 20th.
The Offshore Wind Innovation Hub in New York has opened their 2026 call for innovators for their Innovator Program. Applications are open until July 27th.
Schmidt Marine is accepting proposals for novel technologies until July 31st.
The New York Climate Exchange has opened applications for their climate tech fellowship program. In this iteration, they are focused on “Early-Stage Innovators at the Intersection of Energy & Urban Resilience”. Applications close August 1st.
UC San Diego’s StartBlue Accelerator has opened applications for their immersive fall program.
The newest iteration of UCSC’s Blue Pioneer’s program has been announced, this year taking place as a two week immersion acceleration in Zanzibar. Check here for more details.
Canada’s first blue economy accelerator Blue Action Canada has opened applications for their 2026 cohort.
Apply to Katapult’s Ocean Accelerator program that is designed to guide founders through complex entrepreneurial issues, add structure, and help raise a startup’s next round.

A May 2026 npj Ocean Sustainability perspective argues that ocean scientists must move beyond data collection to become active agents of change by building cross-sector alliances, communicating compellingly, and embracing the political nature of their work in order to match the urgency of accelerating marine crises.
The Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Association has datasets from 11 different regional associations with data for oceans, coasts, and great lakes. You can play around with it here.
